Energy Saving

Being energy aware at home saves you money, and helps save the planet. Aspect is committed to energy saving and efficiency and offers a range of products and services that can help you make your home more energy efficient.

Refurbishing your home gives you the opportunity to reduce energy bills and with energy prices increasing year on year the value of these savings is becoming even more significant.

When refurbishing your property there are many opportunities to improve comfort, save money and reduce carbon emissions.  For further information call us on 0843 216 3645 and arrange for one of our refurbishment experts to come and give you some advice.

When considering the energy efficiency of your home and how it will be rated in an EPC when you come to sell, don’t forget the following:

Moving from a G to an F - upgrade your heating system to a more efficient model – gas central heating with a modern condensing boiler, a biomass boiler or a heat pump.

Moving from an F to an E – provide cavity fill insulation for an extension, fit TRVs on radiators, insulate your water cylinder and pipework, draughtproof doors, windows, floors and service penetrations.

Moving from an E to a D – install double glazing, replace existing cylinder with 150 litre capacity vessel with 80mm insulation and cylinderstat, fit new front door, install 50% low energy lighting.

We have included below some easy energy saving tips.  It's never too late to start making a difference.

Energy saving tips from Aspect Maintenance

1. Turn your thermostat down. Reducing your room temperature by 1ºC could cut your  heating bills by up to 10% and typically saves around £55 per year. If you have a  programmer, set your heating and hot water to come on only when required rather  than all the time.

2. Is your water too hot? Your cylinder thermostat should be set at 60ºC / 140ºF.

3. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows and check for  draughts around windows and doors.

4. Always turn off the lights when you leave a room.

5. Don't leave appliances on standby and remember not to leave laptops and mobile  phones on charge unnecessarily.

6. If possible, fill up the washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher: one load uses  less energy than two half loads.

7. Only boil as much water as you need (but remember to cover the elements if you're  using an electric kettle.)

8. A dripping hot water tap wastes energy and in one week wastes enough hot water to  fill half a bath, so fix leaking taps and make sure they're fully turned off!

9. Use energy saving lightbulbs. They last up to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs,  and using one can save you around £40 over the lifetime of the bulb.
